Ulm is a university town in Baden-Württemberg and is located on the Danube, on the southeastern edge of the Swabian Alb. The city has over 120,000 inhabitants and is the seat of the District Office of the Alb-Donau-Kreis. The nearest major cities around are Augsburg and Munich in the southeast, about 70 km and 130 km away, and Stuttgart in the northwest, about 90 km away. Ulm is the largest city in the administrative district of Tübingen and the Danube-Iller region, which also includes areas of the Bavarian government district of Schwaben. The city is known for its Gothic cathedral, whose church tower is the highest in the world at 161.53 meters.
