Worth knowing
Würzburg has a number of attractions to offer. Above all, the prince-bishop Residenz built by Balthasar Neumann with the world-famous stairwell, where you can admire the world’s largest ceiling fresco, painted by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo. The Würzburg Residence is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Veitshöchheim Castle, with one of the most important Rococo gardens in Germany, is only a few kilometers away from Würzburg and is easily accessible by boat from Würzburg from Spring through Autumn. Würzburg is surrounded by a charming wine landscape, with many well-known Franconian wine villages. Also worth seeing, are the Kiliansdom Church, the Neumünster Church, and the Fortress Marienberg, Würzburg’s castle overlooking the city. In the Marienberg are both the Mainfränkisches Museum and Fürstenbau Museums. New cultural highlights were introduced in February 2002. The former granary from 1904 with museum, café and shop is a living center for the art of the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries. Since 2003, the Museum am Dom has opened its doors. With its high quality of works of art, the Museum am Dom is another cultural enrichment in Würzburg.Recreation and leisure facilities
